a bit of a reunion

Friday evening it was an Alterra reunion at Bens my second home. Michelle was getting her custom bike fit on her new BMC. Michelle said she will be glad not to ride her MTB on the road anymore. She looks forward to improving her fittness even further now that she has the new bike. We look forward to her joining us on Thursday night rides :-)

On Saturday I took Regina on the Tosa tour and we stumbled around a lot of junk on the trails and even some brand new duct tape. Regina is happy she now has a life time supply of toe warmers :-)
Friday evening we hung out at Sugar Maple and had a few drinks with the Scanley's. We tried to pry the Phillips's out but they were too cooked from their trip. Not sure what happened to Duckette and the Livingston's but we had a good time and drank up all the beer without them.

Close Call

Check out Jeff Fringes blog (bike safer), on our close call last Saturday with the mom and pops vehicle. Almost took out Joe Ciesynski up front on the left. I swear he just waxed the car.

Practice Run

I worked on my single handed riding skills this weekend. The trails out in Tosa WERE for the most part dry but soft and peanut buttery in only a few areas aside form the construction work. Good muscular workout for the day.

Wisconsin Spring

After searching for motivation today, I got my arse out of the office and out on to the trails. I remembered my baklava and helmet this time which saved my little ears. I took out my Hollywood shades for the ride since I head west into the sun, and cool MTB glasses with yellow lenses do not cut it. I almost ran over a loose dog ( get it! dog should be on leash!!!) the other day with those shades. Today my glasses were fogged up and I was retaining Co2 which made for an interesting ride. The mojo was there despite the fatigue, but it was the piercing bitter knife cutting wind (can I think of any more adjectives) that slowed me down. ( I have to blame it on something)
Well at least we are back to normal temps for goodness sake! I was getting a bit tired of 75 degree weather, that gets old real fast. :-)

Setting up tarp 101

Not too long ago, I remember camping with all the old team members, Drankus, Phillips, Ganju, T. Gonzalez, Trail Girl and Kirkpatrick. One of our team specialties was setting up tarps in case of the dreaded rain on race weekend. I can't recall exactly what year it was, but it seemed it rained at every race. So our team developed superior skills in setting up tarps for our camping events. I found this video reminiscent of the good old times.

Reality

Did you ever have one of those days when everything was going your way and then you get slapped in the face with reality and feel like shit? Well yesterday, I had one of those eye awakening experiences.

Emergency Chocolate Cake

I was thinking about Ty yesterday braving it in the elements on the bike while I take it easy in the kitchen. I came across a recipe for this World War II style cake which was presented in March & April issue of Cook's Illustrated. The cake turned out to have a very deep chocolate flavor and not too overly sweet. Ty walked in the door just in time, showing me his frozen water bottle, as I was pulling the warm cake out of the oven. I am sure he warmed up fast after a few pieces of this cake. :-)
