WORBA Racing

Obviously enjoys hills
They call her Megatron but pink lady comes in as a close second.

I hear she can crack out an average of 450 watts during her race

I was invited last night by some lovely gals to come join them for a mountain bike race at Crystal ridge. WORBA has a Milwaukee chapter and through Metro Mountain Bikers association they hold races every Wednesday night at Crystal Ridge in Franklin. Many of you already know this, so keep your comments to yourself, hey! Just getting the word out.

Let's do it again

Sunday turned out to be a perfect day for riding again at the Southern Kettle's
Many new cut sections of single track off the connector trail. There
was some good climbing too.

You wait all year for weather like this, just perfect.

Mother Nature

My favorite part of the woods. It always smells so good riding through here.

E, Ty and I set off for South Kettle's to ride today. Should of, could of, would of, if we would get our rears in gear and left at a decent time this morning we could of got in a better ride then a slippery wet one. Somehow it is easier to say it when making plans to go ride, that we will all be up and ready to go by 7 AM, right! I ran into Holly out in the parking lot, while she was waiting for her friend to arrive. We started to ride the first lap together. Somewhere before the blue loop she disappeared. I must of dropped her:) I wish, she must of went off to the white loop to meet her friend. Everyone had intentions today to do the connector to Emma, but that I guess, did not happen. We got hit with a down pour 1/2 the way through the first lap of the blue. The trails are wicked fast with some new cut tight single track that was really fun. The rain was making the rocks slimy but the trail itself was OK. The boys wanted to continue to ride in the rain but I bailed. There is something chilling about riding in the rain when it is 60 something compared to a 80 degree day. Anyway we had fun while it lasted.

TREADFEST 2007

First, thanks to Ray and all the great peeps that made Treadfest a success yesterday. I thought it was great to see all the course Marshall's at the most dangerous sections with two way radios, that was sweet!
Race Report
Here you have it, just in this order, don't I wish! I have to say the start for me yesterday was a better one. I tried to suffer like the rest of them, and believe me they suffer pretty good up in the front. Once we hit the single track on the first lap it was a Blurr and it sure was fun hitting the rock garden with all the paparazzi around flashing pictures at all of us Sport Girl Celebrities. I would stop and pose for the camera, but then I would pop off into a tree and that would not be a pretty pic for everyone to see. I am surprised that the weather held out for us and we were able to enjoy the nice DRY conditions of the tight a** single track and off camber sections. I think I held my place for a while and that makes me feel a bit better than the last race. I learned a few things from some sport racers this past race, things "I" would not do in a race, but who am I to complain. I am sure I have pissed off a few, here and there. See being in the back, you get to learn quite a bit about other racers' mountain biking skills and race techniques, it is totally a blast! Unfortunately, I would like to get better SOME DAY, so I can move up to the real stars of the elite crowd. Yes, this is my big DREAM.

Last but not least, photos from Treadfest compliments of the amateur photographer super fly. I am just learning how to use this new telephoto lens so don't give me any shit if your photo came out blurry. Besides, I stood out in the rain, you can't expect too much. Once I get good at this stuff, I will start charging you. I don't think that will ever happen, since I have no time to do anything but ride my bike:) Enjoy!

Acts of GOD

All day while at work I thought about working in my flower garden in the back yard. I had the night off from riding and I was looking forward to having an enjoyable time planting some flowers and digging up weeds like creeping Charlie. I pulled into the driveway, got out of the car and noted the winds were a bit gusty. Well, they sure were! Our big old tree in the back yard which is probably over 100 years old, which appeared one or two of the tree branches broke off and fell on the neighbors house, damaging her back porch and patio. I thought S***, I had yard work to do but not this! I wandered into the house to call our insurance agent to get things cleaned up right away. Unfortunately even though it is our tree that did the damage, our neighbor has to claim it on her insurance. They obviously were no help. To top it off we had to call WE energies to get one of the branches off the electrical wires and they made things even worse, UGH!, and then they did not even take any of the tree branches with them. The worst part of all of this is our neighbor is at work, and we have no way of notifying her that this all happened. What a nightmare.

Iola 2007

The WORS season opener at Iola this year was a great start for the Alterra team and just as well for many other teams. It felt great to open up the pipes and get out the carbon, but for a few, looks like there pipes were in full throttle no need for cleaning. I got the camera out just in time for the Elite race and was able to snap a few shots before the memory stick was full, 2 giggs, WTF? Oops, forgot to empty it out before the race. Oh well, next time... What a great weekend seeing all the crazy MTB peeps, just like me.

In the News

Alterra member Mike Phillips receives his first pro win in the super D. Here is what is posted on the Alterrra website today by Christopher Schultz.

Mike Phillips Goes Pro? Mike Phillips is two for two in California for 2007. His first "win" came when his fiancé said yes to marrying him after he popped the question in CA earlier this year. His second success came this past weekend after getting on the podium twice in the second race of the National Mountain Bike Series in Santa Ynez, CA.Starting things off with the Short Track race on Saturday morning, Mike took third after battling at the front throughout most of the race. He out-sprinted three riders in the chase group to get his third-place spot on the boxes. But, Mike wasn't finished yet.The Super-D race was next, so Mike clipped into his pedals and went up against a field that included 12 pros. He eventually caught the rider ahead of him and then hammered on the flat section toward the bottom. After crossing the finish line the announcer said Mike beat all of the pros with a time of 5:55. How could this be? A semi-pro beats the pros? The race director made the decision to move Mike up to pro status for the Super-D race so that he could take a true win over the pros, rather than simply taking first over the semi-pros. You've got to love an underdog.Sunday was the Cross-Country race. Mike explains the events of the race, down to the unfortunate end result, on his blog http://carpetmachine.blogspot.com/. So, if you want to know what a poorly staffed race and a wrong turn can do to a top competitor's results, check it out. Mike has also posted some great photos from the races. Congratulations, Mike!
